The journey has begun. Here is Part I of my blogs on my bike ride from Tahoe to Baja.
My name is Alenka. I am a native of Slovenia, living in Lake Tahoe California and La Ventana Bay in Mexico with one husband, four grown children, three growing grandchildren, and one magnificent golden retriever Monty.
I write here, there and everywhere in— between about anything that inspires me, makes me mad or sad or preferably, about what makes my heart sing with joy.

The second leg of my journey. And boy, are my legs burning. Had a very chilly night in Sequoia National Park and saw lots of interesting roadkill. I’m on my way!
Part III of my journey. I ate some good BBQ and I need to find a comb! I’ve been brushing my hair with a fork for a few weeks now…
On the road again meeting new people and seeing new places. Halfway to the border!
53 miles, 5,6K of climbing, and more than 10 hours in the saddle make it a long day.
The road is long and beautiful. But it’s the people I meet who stand out.
The good people of Wrightwood promised me a much smaller climb…

I am riding in Baja and it is what I’ve been waiting for on this journey of mine.
I am riding in Baja and loving it! Coronas and fish tacos never tasted better.
I find out I am the oldest woman, and the only solo woman, to ride the Baja Divide. But, in the words of Monty Python, I’m not dead yet!
Riding through Baja before a long segment through the backcountry. It can be hard to be alone, but it is also so necessary to get away from it all.
I am again saved by strangers who give me water in the middle of the desert!
The stars, cacti, trees, flowers, beach, and wildlife. What I’ve been waiting for this entire ride!
My time riding the salt flats and traveling through the small towns of Baja. So many stories to tell the world!
I did it. I made it. I am HOME.
It has been over a week since I’ve arrived to my house in La Ventana Bay in Baja California, Mexico.
What nutcase would want to do that! Fear of running out of water and food. Fear of wild animals roaming around at night looking for a pray. Fear of running into people who might want to do me harm. Fear of getting lost. All that was present, but I tried to ignore it as much as possible
