Back on the mat again
I jump on my motorcycle and I ride down the dirt road back into the village of El Sargento for my last Yoga of the year. The Sea of Cortez on my left is calm and deep blue this morning. I love calm days here. It feels very soothing. I dodge a few little taco dogs that bark ferosusly and want to nibble at my toes as I ride through the village. And yes, I avoid some garbage thrown out of the car. This is Mexico. You have to embrace and love it all.
On this day, exactly a year ago, I just finished my last radiation treatment which was following grueling chemo treatments. My body and my soul were defeated, broken down to it's core. I was bald, skin burned, bloated and swollen. Weak like never before.
Besides having loving people around me, what got me through tough times, was yoga. It was a humbling time in my life. When I first got back on the mat, I could hardly reach my knees. Slowly, my body started opening up. Slowly I was getting my strength back. Slowly my heart and my soul started to feel joy again more frequently. I have a long way to go still, but like everything else, it's the journey. And the most difficult journey is the most rewarding one.
So, I leave you on this note and I wish you a Very Happy New Year and happy beginnings to all possibilities in life. May your journey be joyous and fulfilling. May you find love and happines.
Namaste
